Ever wondered how you could transform the miles you travel into cash in your account. Well, now you can with Navizon rewards.

When you use Navizon with a GPS device, every Wi-Fi access point and Cell tower that you pass by will be logged and turned into points on your account.

  • 15 points for each cellular tower

  • 3 points for each Wi-Fi access point

If they are discovered by you (If you are the first one to map them)

  • 1 point for each Wi-Fi access point

  • 2 points for each cellular tower

If they have already been mapped by someone else

(except in a few areas)

Once you have 10,000 points, you can redeem them for a reward, and $10 will be wired to your Paypal account (minus the Paypal fee in the amount of $0.19).

Note: You may also choose to redeem a reward for a free copy of Navizon Premium.

(Normally $24.99)

The idea is fairly simple: some users who have GPS enabled phones, or a standalone GPS device map the wireless landscape (ie. the location of Cell towers and Wi-Fi Access Points) wherever they go, so that other users who don’t have GPS will be able to use a positioning system that works independent of GPS.

Instead, location is achieved by triangulating those same Wi-Fi and/or Cellular signals, whose location is now known thanks to the "mappers."

Like in every community, there are the people who do the work and others who benefit from it.

So users who don't want to map any points, but still want the full featured version of Navizon, need to buy it.

But the money is not going in our pockets, it is going in the pockets of those who make Navizon possible, by mapping the wireless landscape wherever they go.

(and get 20% of the points they accumulate !)

1) Log on to the member section
(at the bottom of the main screen you will see your Referral code).

2) Send the referral code to your friends who you want to introduce to Navizon.

(ask them to enter this information when they are creating their profile; there is a field for this referral code in the registration page).

As soon as they start mapping points, 20% will go straight into your account. So if you know people who drive a lot (Taxi drivers, Truck drivers, or salesmen for example), you will be able to sit down, relax, and earn money while they drive.

  • The people you refer to the system will not lose points because they are referred by someone: 20% of the points you get from them come in addition to the points they would normally earn if they weren't referred by anyone. So it's a win win for everyone.

  • You can not refer someone who is already using navizon. Even if they register a new profile with your referral code. If they started using Navizon before you sent them your referral code, it means that they knew about the system before you sent them your email and you aren't the first one who introduced them to the system.

  • The points you earn from referrals also count in the Navizon contest. So if you did think you would be able to compete, think again... You can be right up there with monthly leaders if you refer a lot of users.

Q:  What are the rules of the rewards system?

A: You get points for every new data point (cell tower or Wi-Fi AP) that you map on your account.

  • You cannot earn points for the same data point twice (i.e. if you map a particular cell tower on your way to work, and map that same tower on the way home, you only earn points for the first time you saw it.

  • However if a data point has been mapped by someone else, you can still earn points the first time you see it. (see above)

Q: Every day on my way to work, I am mapping data. However, when I synchronize it, the total in my rewards page doesn't change. Why?

A: This is because you only earn points for any given Cell tower or Wi-Fi Access Point the first time you see it. So if you take the same route over and over again, you are mapping the same points over and over again.

But if you take a different route from point A to point B, you will see new points. So, try taking a different route each time. As long as it doesn't make you show up too late at work ;-)

Q: I see that someone else already mapped my area? Can I earn rewards if I map the same area?

A: Absolutely. You might earn fewer points than if you go to a place that has been unexplored by anyone, but you will get points. And even if you do go to a place that has already been mapped by someone else, people install new Wi-Fi access points every day (and cell companies are constantly expanding their coverage and installing new cell towers every day).

So you might still be able to collect new data points even if somewhere has already mapped that area.

Q: I uploaded a Netstumbler or a WiFiFoFum log file. My rewards page doesn't reflect this upload. Is this normal?

A: Yes, only the data that has been mapped with Navizon (or with the Navizon API) qualifies for rewards. You can upload NetStumbler and WiFiFoFum for the good of the rest of the community but you won't earn rewards for those.

Q: Navizon shows that I mapped "X number" Cell towers and APs. The rewards page only shows "Y" new cell towers and APs mapped. What happened to my points!?!?

A: The Navizon program indicates the number of data points collected for the current session. But that doesn't mean that you have not already mapped those data points. Again, you only earn points once for any given Cell Tower or WiFi Access point.

While, the counter does gives you a good indication of the data that you have mapped since you started the Navizon program, the rewards page will only count points the first time you see them. (Don't worry, if the points have been mapped by someone else, that's OK: they still count).

Q: I am under the impression that I mapped a ton of data. I only see a fraction of this data accounted for in my rewards page. Something doesn't add up...

A: We are totally transparent on the way rewards are calculated. If you think there has been an error, just go into the members section, hit "Coverage" then "My data".

You will see all the unique data points that you have mapped.

Just compare that to the total number of points in your rewards page and you will see that the numbers are consistent.

Q: Is there a maximum number of rewards that I can earn?

A: Nope. The more you points you map, the more you earn.

Q: I created two accounts. Can I earn rewards twice for the same data points?

A: No you cannot earn points twice for the exact same data. However if you have two phones with two different operators or if one phone is mapping Wi-Fi, and one is mapping cell towers, then yes, your points can qualify for rewards. But they will need to be mapped with the same account.

Q: What if I use two accounts anyway to earn more rewards?

A: If you do that, we reserve the right to close your account. Pure and simple.
